A Cool Twist on Juicing

Why didn’t I think to do this before? Perhaps I didn’t realize just how easy making sorbet was until now. Perhaps I just had my head so tightly wound around juicing for health that a sweet treat didn’t cross my mind. Whatever the reason was before, there is no stopping me now!

Making sorbet is incredibly easy. Take your favorite fruit/vegetable and puree it in your Vitamix or blender. I personally like to leave a few pieces for texture, but you can make the puree as smooth as you’d like. Many recipes will tell you to add sugar to the puree. I can attest that this does very little for the flavor and much more to your hips….skip the sugar. Pour the puree into a metal bowl and freeze for roughly 3 hours. Then stir it up, noticing the ice crystals that have begun to form and refreeze for another 3 hours. Stir the mixture again and serve or transfer to a freezer safe container for later. That’s it.

For my first attempt, I had some very ripe fresh pineapple in the fridge that needed to be used soon. I added some blueberries and raspberries and a hint of lemon juice to balance out pineapple’s sweetness and provide more health benefits with the antioxidants. My family gave this full thumbs ups 🙂
